Kuan Yin Temple in Chubadak, Sentul ordered to stop its worshipping activities after complaints were lodged against it
Gerakan promises to meet with DBKL and look for a solution
Press statement by Batu Gerakan Service Centre Coordinator
Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai
31 December 2012
Members of Gerakan Batu Division have visited the Kuan Yin Temple in Chubadak, Sentul in order to meet with the person in charge of the temple and to have a grasp of the problems that they are facing currently.
Batu Gerakan Service Centre Coordinator Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai who joined the visitation said that the Kuan Yin Temple has been complained by its neighbours that live behind saying that the worshipping of the temple was very loud, the situation was worse especially during its celebration activities in conjunction with some of the religious festivals that disrupted the tranquillity of the neighbourhood. Besides, the temple has also been accused of unlawful expansion that occupies the back alley which is upsetting the residents. In this regard, the complainant has lodged a complaint to the DBKL by arguing that there should be no temple within the neighbourhood. DBKL has since acted against the Kuan Yin Temple by ordering them to stop all worshipping activities. The person in charge of the temple is so worried and seeks the help from Gerakan Batu Division to discuss for a solution.
"It is understood that the Kuan Yin Temple has been there for over 45 years, it is puzzling that why the residents only came out and lodged their complaints by now to demand that the temple be removed from the place," said Dr. Dominic Lau.
"Since the Kuan Yin Temple has been there for long, has a steady number of devotees and also it is a good place for religious worshipping. The next day, Gerakan Batu Division has brought the committee members of the temple to meet the relevant officers at the DBKL office in order to come out with a solution by looking into the possibility of turning the temple from a residence to a temple, so that the Kuan Yin Temple would be able to be preserved," said Dr. Dominic Lau.
Dr. Dominic Lau also added that Gerakan would continue to serve the residents of Batu parliamentary constituency, solve their livelihood problems and improve their quality of life.
