Land acquisition for MRR2 new link might lead to the demolition of Hindu temple
Gerakan together with DBKL and developer came out with a solution
Press statement by Batu Gerakan Service Centre Coordinator
Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai
29 January 2013

Members of Gerakan Batu Division have visited a Hindu temple located in Intan Baiduri, Sentul in order to have a meeting with the person in charge of the temple and to understand the problems that they currently facing.
Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai who joined the visitation pointed out that the Hindu temple has received a notice from the DBKL recently, the land where the temple is currently situated might need to be expropriated, due to the demand from the local residents who have urged the MRR2 highway company to build another road that links directly to Intan Baiduri in order to relieve the local traffic and bring more convenience to the local residents. The person in charge of the temple was so worried, therefore he sought the help of Gerakan Batu Division to negotiate with the DBKL on their behalf and look for a solution.
"It is understood that this Hindu temple has been there for over 18 years, which is also the only Hindu temple in Intan Baiduri, the devotees are mainly from the Intan Baiduri and also some of them are from Kepong and Selayang. What is worth mentioning is that there is a tree in the temple which is home to a few snakes and the devotees believe that these snakes are spiritual beings which they worship them regularly, however the tree is right under the land acquisition area required for the new highway project," said Dr. Dominic Lau.
"Since the Hindu temple has been there in the area for long and have a steady number of devotees which is also a good place for religious worship that frequently visited by local devotees, it should be preserved. Gerakan Batu Division also brought along officers from DBKL and also related developer to pay a visit to the temple and together we discussed the solution. After the study along with our coordination, the DBKL and the related developer have reached an agreement to have the highway bypassing the Hindu temple which will spare the temple from any land acquisition, so that the temple can be preserved," added Dr. Dominic Lau.
Besides, the person in charge of the temple also requested the DBKL to expand the parking space around the temple, so that there will be enough parking for the devotees who come here for religious worshipping without affecting the traffic. Gerakan Batu Division would follow-up the matter closely with DBKL.
Dr. Dominic Lau also added that Gerakan will continue to serve the residents of Batu parliamentary constituency, solve their livelihood problems and improve their quality of life.
