（1月5日）峇都区冼都花园组屋209座12楼16号单位昨日不幸遭火神光顾，烧毁了整座单位，导致一个巫裔家庭失去居所，所幸没有造成人命伤亡。
峇都区民政党服务中心协调员刘华才博士于当天第一时间赶往火灾现场巡视和慰问受影响的居民，并安排了福利局提供每日三餐和日常必需品予灾民。
刘华才博士指出，当天消防队到场灌救时，却发现该组屋的消防设备如水泵和喷管都已经损坏和无法操作，导致消防队须到底楼安排水源上楼救火。
"我们要谴责那些蓄意破坏组屋消防设备的人士，也吁请消防人员有必要定期检查组屋的消防设施，以免在发生火患时，耽误救火工作和发生不愉快事件。" 刘华才补充。
"在民政党峇都区部的安排下，目前灾黎一家都被安顿在社区人民礼堂，我也即时给予受影响的家庭一些援助金，暂时解决经济上的负担。民政党峇都区部也将尽快协助这个家庭申请政府人民组屋，并且跟进及加速申请程序，让他们可以重获新的住所。"
刘华才博士也补充，民政党将持续服务峇都国会选区的居民，并解决他们的民生问题和提高他们的生活素质。

A flat unit in Taman Sentul, Batu located in lot 16, 12th floor, block 209 was unfortunately destroyed in a fire yesterday, the whole unit was burned down completely that caused a Malay family to lose their home, but fortunately there were no casualties.
Batu Gerakan Service Centre Coordinator Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai immediately rushed to the fire scene during that day to inspect and console the affected residents, he also arranged the Welfare Department to supply 3 meals per day and also daily necessities to the victims.
Dr. Dominic Lau pointed out that when the fire brigade arrived at the scene to fight the blaze, they discovered that the fire equipment in the flat such as the pump and pipe have been damaged and cannot be used which left the fire brigade with no option but to arrange water deliverance from the ground all the way up to the upper floor in order to put down the fire.
"We condemn those who deliberately vandalised the fire emergency equipment of the flat and also urge the officers from the Fire Department to conduct regular inspection of the fire emergency equipment of the flat so as to stop unpleasant events that delay the fire fighting operations from repeating again," added Dr. Dominic Lau.
"Under the arrangement by Gerakan, the victims are currently placed in the community hall; I also immediately handed out some financial assistance to the affected family in order to levitate their financial burden. Gerakan Batu Division will also help this family to apply for PPR flat as soon as possible, to follow-up as well as to expedite the application process, so that they can regain a new residence soon."
Dr. Dominic also added that Gerakan will continue to serve the residents of Batu parliamentary constituency, solve their livelihood problems and improve their quality of life.
